(INDIANAPOLIS) - A giant buck called “Nightmare” for its size and ability to elude hunters, is living up to its nickname even in death.
Department of Natural Resources officials say they were able to catch a man suspected of illegally killing the deer.
The man couldn't lift the 300-pound buck and put it in his truck. Conservation Officer Jet Quillen says authorities were called to a property near Eagle Creek Park at Indianapolis early Tuesday after a resident heard a gunshot.
The resident caught the suspected poacher struggling to load the deer. He fled, but not before the property owner got his license plate.
Authorities say the man admitted shooting the buck and could face charges.
Quillen says firearms are not allowed to be used to hunt deer until mid November.
