(INDIANAPOLIS) - Patients at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital are getting the super hero treatment.
Volunteers with The Hero Project at the hospital spent the day giving hand-made superhero capes to every child who has to stay overnight or longer at the hospital.
Amy Cooke, who is on St. Vincent's board of directors, says they've collected the capes from a number of groups over the past year, and are now taking Capes For Kids to the public.
Cooke says the idea came to some of the women at the hospital after seeing a news story on grandmother made a cape for her granddaughter to help her feel strong.
With roughly 1,250 capes either in hand or on their way, the hospital now hopes individuals and groups from across the country will donate more capes so the hospital can continue to make every patient feel like a hero.
St.Vincent is also selling capes, tutus and masks on The Hero Project's website to raise money for Capes For Kids, or people can design a cape at the project's website, which will then be made and given to a patient at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital.
