(FORT WAYNE) - A young girl is still recovering in the hospital after getting hit by a car that didn’t have its headlights on.
WANE reports, that accident has one mother speaking out about a dangerous game she claims some children are playing at the bus stop.
it's called tag team.. The goal's to touch the hood of cars passing by.
Police don't know if the girl who was hit was playing the game - they said she was simply crossing the street. Police are searching for the person who hit the young girl who was crossing the street at Broadway and Scott Avenue to get to her bus stop Wednesday morning. The girl told officers she looked both ways.
"It's before 6:30 am it's very dark outside so of course she's not going to see a vehicle that's approaching if they do not have their headlights on and that was the case that morning," Fort Wayne Police Department Spokesperson Raquel Foster said.
After learning about this accident, the mother of a middle school student whose name is Grace is speaking out. Grace claims children at her daughter's bus stop are playing a dangerous game called tag team. The bus stop is about a mile away from where the young girl got hit by a hit and run driver.
"When I'm down here with my daughter that they'll jump out in the middle of traffic and they'll dare the driver to hit them then they'll jump back. Or they'll stand here and they'll balance and they'll just do like this and they'll reach out to touch the car," Grace explained.
She has told the children to stop but two or three of them aren't listening.
"Somebody is going to end up getting hurt."
Police are still looking for the hit and run driver who severely injured a young girl Wednesday morning. The vehicle is described as a late model car, tan in color with a large dent on the driver's side. The car may also have had a broken window from the crash. Police believe it would be a large automobile, similar in size to an Oldsmobile 98. Witnesses were only able to describe the driver as being a white male.
The girl is a student at Fort Wayne Community Schools and was making her way to a bus stop in the 1000 block of West Creighton Avenue. Her identity has not been released and she was listed as being in serious but stable condition as of 1:30 pm Wednesday.
Anyone with information about the vehicle involved in the incident should call the Fort Wayne Police Department at 427-1222.
