(PERU) - A central Indiana prosecutor says police have made an arrest in a 20-year-old slaying after DNA taken from the crime scene matched that of a former Indiana man now living in Mississippi.
Miami County Prosecutor Bruce Embrey announced the arrest of Timothy J. Jimerson of Biloxi, Mississippi, in connection with the slaying of Toni Spicer. The body of the 27-year-old woman was found August 29, 1992, in her mobile home just north of the Howard-Miami county line.
Routine DNA analysis wasn't available at the time of Spicer's death. The Indianapolis Star reports Tuesday's arrest occurred after investigators entered DNA gathered from the scene into a national FBI repository in 2011 and got a match.
Jimerson is being held in a Biloxi jail awaiting extradition to Peru.
