(INDIANAPOLIS) - A pilot was injured Saturday afternoon when a small plane crashed on Indianapolis’ south side.
RTV6 reports, the crash happened in a wooded area on West Sumner Avenue, just north of Interstate 465, about 1 p.m.
The crash happened near a gathering at a home where people were playing wiffleball in a back yard.
Indiana State Police said the pilot was trying to take off from a field, clipped a large tree and crashed a few yards away.
The fixed wing single-engine plane is registered to Jeremy Milless, of Monrovia. He is an engineer for Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing.
Milless suffered a minor shoulder injury.
"I heard a plane come out, and it sounded real loud," said neighbor Kevin Anderson. "It circled back around then started descending, and that was the last I (saw) of it."
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
