(INDIANAPOLIS) - A Central Indiana mother faces charges for leaving her 1-year-old alone and locked in a car at a Wal-Mart parking lot.
The witness who spotted the child crying called 911 and then tried to settle the child down. Police said it was 34 degrees out at the time. The baby was wearing a zip-up sweatshirt. He soiled his diapers and was screaming.
The caller, also known as Patricia, said the longer she waited for someone to show up, the angrier she got.
"I don't know if it's a girl or boy, but it's just crying like crazy. But it's in the car by itself," she told the operator. "People are (expletive) unbelievable - who does this?"
Surveillance video showed Tamika Moore-Robinson walking in at 3:24 p.m. The 27-year-old mother left the store at 3:50 p.m. -- nearly 30 minutes while her 1-year-old son was alone in the cold car.
"Just stupid (expletive) that do this," she told the operator. "I mean, it ain't hot outside but it is cold."
Police reports said Moore-Robinson showed little remorse over the incident. She told officers leaving the baby in the car would be alright because he was sleeping. The mother claimed she was running into the store for five minutes to buy diapers.
Patricia, a mother herself, did not want to talk to us on camera. She told Fox59 her heart still aches just thinking about the incident.
We could not reach Moore-Robinson at her home. She is facing charges of neglect of a dependent. The child was taken by Child Protective Services for further investigation. Medics on scene said he appeared to be in good health.
