(LANESVILLE) - Indianaiana Conservation Officers are investigating an ATV accident that occurred Friday night in Harrison County near Lanesville.
The accident occurred on St. Johns Church Rd. The Harrison County Sheriff's Department, Harrison County EMS, and Lanesville Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
55-year-old James N. Baumgart, 55, of Lanesville, was operating the ATV when he lost control after cresting a rise in the roadway. The ATV overturned and Baumgart was thrown from the vehicle.
Baumgart was transported to University of Louisville Hospital due to his injuries, which included head trauma. Baumgart was not wearing a helmet or any other safety equipment, nor was the ATV he was operating properly registered.
All ATVs operated on county roadways in Indiana must be registered through the Department of Natural Resources, and a valid operator's license is required. Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage riders to always wear a helmet and necessary safety equipment when operating an ATV.
