(MOORESVILLE) - A man has been arrested in connection with a fire at a school in Mooresville.
Matt Skylar, 19 of Mooresville, is in the Morgan County Jail after confessing to setting a fire at Paul Hadley Middle School early Saturday morning, police said.
Skylar is being held in the Morgan County Jail and faces charges of arson, criminal mischief, theft, burglary and trespassing.
Fire crews were dispatched to the school around 2 a.m. Saturday, where they found smoke in a hallway and the sprinkler system on.
Firefighters extinguished the fire, cleared out the smoke and turned off the sprinklers. Their investigation determined the fire was intentionally set.
Surveillance cameras at the school caught enough footage of the incident to lead police to Skylar. Officials said Skylar was questioned, during which time he confessed.
The building sustained small amounts of damage, but school officials said school will start as usual Monday morning.
Paul Hadley Middle School is attached to Mooresville High School, but the high school did not sustain any damage.
