(INDIANAPOLIS) - Police have identified the two people who were fatally shot at the ConAgra Foods plant on the city’s northwest side Friday evening.
RTV6 reports, a witness told police that the shooting took place in the plant's break room and involved two employees.
The witness said the shooter, who was later identified by police as Alonzo Laws, 44, entered the room and made eye contact with the victim, who was later identified as Anthony Hicks Sr., 45.
Laws then left the room and returned with a gun, shooting Hicks multiple times while he was standing at a vending machine, police said. Laws then fatally shot himself, the witness said.
Laws and Hicks didn't exchange any words in the break room before the shooting, the witness said.
Officials said Hicks was alert when they arrived on the scene, but he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police said they are reviewing surveillance footage to see where Laws got the weapon, and they are interviewing employees about a possible motive for the shooting.
"As far as why this took place, there is no information right now that we have," said IMPD spokesman Michael Hewitt.
Hicks' family members told RTV6 that he was a longtime employee at the plant and a father of four. Friends remembered him as a good man.
"Anthony was a very kind and loving man. His children are wonderful, wonderful people. His wife is wonderful lady ," said family friend Tina Moffatt. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Peggy and her children."
