(MUNCIE) - A suspect was shot during an attempted bank robbery in Delaware County on Tuesday, police said.
Ebone Monet, of RTV6 reports, the First Merchants Bank at 1501 North Nebo Road was held up by two armed men just after 4:30 p.m., police said.
"They go in with guns drawn, demanding the money. They received the money and they leave the bank in the vehicle," says Yorktown Police Chief Todd St. John.
Once outside, one of the men pulled an assault rifle and opened fire on officers, prompting officers to return fire, shooting the man, police said.
The other man was taken into custody at the scene.
Investigators set up a perimeter around the bank and were using dogs to search for a possible third person who may have been involved.
"There was a rumor or information floating around that there may be someone else in the car, and we haven't spoken to the suspects we've apprehended to confirm or deny that," St. John says.
