(GARY) - A woman has walked away unhurt after her car hit a concrete median barrier, rolled three times and flew into a truck trailer on a northwestern Indiana highway.
Indiana State Police say 35-year-old Barbara Macikszek of Bensenville, Ill., refused medical treatment after the crash Tuesday morning on Interstate 80 in Lake County. Her car was a total loss.
Master Trooper Steve Caylor says, "Buckling up and all the air bags the car had inside saved this woman's life."
Police say Macikszek swerved to avoid a tire tread and her car struck a tire on a box trailer, then careened left into the barrier, rolled and went airborne, punching a hole into the trailer. The car hit the barrier a second time and came to a rest facing the opposite direction.
