(UNDATED) - Instead of putting that job search on hiatus for the holidays, use the opportunities around this time to lead to that next employer.
Lee Wenninger is the owner of Express Employment Professionals in Fishers. He says since people believe its not a good time to search for a job, your competition in the marketplace will be a lot less than after the first of the year.
Wenninger says the holidays offer lots of opportunities for networking that could eventually lead to employment. Wenninger says volunteering is a way to meet people who are often decision makers or people of prominence within their business or industry. Even mentioning your search during conversation at a holiday party can lead to an introduction.
Wenninger says a way to lead in to your employment quest is an honest answer to the question, "what do you do?" If a connection or lead is made in either situation, don't be afraid to ask when and how is a good way to follow up.
He says the recent economic downturn has left so many people out of work at a variety of levels that the "unemployed" label no longer carries the negative stigma that it once did. He says as a result, people are more willing to help if they can if they are aware someone is looking for a job opportunity.
