INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indiana State Police say a state trooper vehicle was struck by a car Saturday afternoon in a hit and run accident.
WISH TV reports, the accident happened on an exit ramp to Interstate 70 eastbound at Interstate 465 southbound.
A trooper was responding to an accident on I-70 and was completely off the roadway with emergency lights on. The female passenger involved in the accident he was responding to was sitting in the front passenger seat.
A red SUV struck the left rear of the trooper's car and left the scene without stopping.
A witness says a suspect pulled into the Lawrence Crossing apartment complex where he left his vehicle and removed the license plate.
Lawrence police officers arrested Michael A. Masters, 33, on preliminary charges of leaving the scene of a crash causing injury, a Class D felony, driving while suspended causing injury, a Class D felony, and driving while suspended, a Class A misdemeanor.
He was taken to the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center.
The state trooper was taken to the hospital for back pain. His female passenger refused transport to the hospital.
