(UNDATED) - General Motors launched a recall of several trucks for faulty shifter cables and steering-column locks.
(UNDATED) - General Motors launched a recall of several trucks for faulty shifter cables and steering-column locks.
A filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations shows that several vehicles built from November through Dec. 18 have the problem.
The models include the 2013 Cadillac Escalade; Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban and Express; and GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL and Savana. The problem affects 54,686 vehicles.
The issue can allow the shifter to move from park while the ignition is off or when the key is removed. Drivers could also inadvertently shift from park without hitting the brakes or remove the key when the shifter isn't in park. The problem could cause the trucks to roll away.
Dealers will replace the steering columns starting Jan. 17. Owners can call Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC at 1-866-996-9463. GM said the problems were limited to certain 2013 models due to supplier and worker errors.
