(INDIANAPOLIS) - A second person has been arrested in connection with the Craiglist iPhone murder case.
Derrik Thomas of the TheIndyChannel.com staff reports that the alleged triggerman is now in custody and had his initial court appearance Thursday afternoon.
Bryant Dowdy fled Marion County and was finally arrested in Ohio. Thursday, he pleaded not guilty.
Dowdy had no comment as he left court, but prosecutors believe last month he shot and killed Nishant Patel.
The victim met Dowdy, Dominique Clanton and Eric Clanton to sell his iPhone that he had advertised on Craigslist for $750.
They met to complete the transaction at 670 English Villane Lane.
Patel was killed as he sat in his car.
Police believe Dowdy shot and killed Eric Clanton the next day, and shot and wounded Dominique Clanton, to get rid of all witnesses to the crime.
"I wanted to see this guy who killed my brother," said Erica Clanton, who attended the hearing.
Erica Clanton said her heart goes out to the Patel family as she deals with her family's pain.
"It's hard and it's a day-to-day thing to have to live without someone you expected to grow old with," she said. "Me and my brother were very close."
Her cousin Dominique is charged with murder in this case, and her brother probably would have been charged too, if he had survived.
Prosecutors are taken aback by this wanton violence over a cell phone.
"Someone being killed over a piece of property like an iPhone really makes you question where people's judgments are, where their values are coming from," said Deputy Prosecutor John Kieffner.
Dowdy is being held without bond. His jury trial is set for March 18.
