(SULLIVAN) - Thieves stole nearly $600 cash from the Sullivan County Humane Shelter earlier in the week.
Jaclyn Bevis of WTHI reports that the thieves stole nearly $600 cash from the Sullivan County Humane Shelter earlier in the week.
When staff arrived Monday morning, they found an office door, usually locked, wide open. A window in the office was open as well. Inside, however, the money box was missing.
The shelter manager and other volunteers were called into the shelter when the theft was realized, and the search for answers began.
Thankfully, one volunteer didn't have to look long before coming up with some of the missing goods. On her way into the shelter, Lisa Huff searched the roadside to see if the box may have been discarded there. That's when she noticed some blowing papers, which turned out to be all the checks that were held inside the box.
Unfortunately, the cash is still missing and investigators continue their search for who's responsible. Right now, the shelter is hoping someone comes forward to take responsibility for the incident.
If you have any information about this case, or know of any suspect(s), you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at (812) 238-STOP.
