18-Year-Old Man Found In A Ditch Along I-70

Last updated on Sunday, February 10, 2013

(VIGO CO.) - An injured man was found in a ditch along Interstate 70 early Saturday morning.

WTHI reports, around 3:30 a.m., Indiana State Police and Vigo County rescue agencies responded to a call about an injured person found along the eastbound lanes of I-70 near the 12-mile-marker.

After a thorough search, ISP trooper Michael Featherling found an intoxicated David E. Halcomb, 18, lying in a ditch approximately 50 feet south of I-70.

Halcomb was treated at the scene and transferred to Methodist Hospital via Trans Care Ambulance for treatment of a fractured leg.

He was treated and tested. Those test results showed Halcomb had a .12 BAC.

According to a release from the ISP, Halcomb was one of two passengers in a vehicle driven by a friend, traveling back to Hendricks County after an evening in Terre Haute.

ISP believes an argument broke out, which resulted in Halcomb being left in a ditch, though it's unknown whether he was forced out or left on his own accord.

According to the release, "Troopers have tentatively identified the friends who left the scene prior to [ISP's] arrival."

The investigation is ongoing, and there is a possibility of more charges to come.

Assisting were ISP Troopers Brian Thomas and Don Curtis, Vigo County Sheriff's Office, Riley Fire/Rescue Department and Trans Care Ambulance Service.
