(INDIANAPOLIS) - Fire crews are working at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at the corner of Capitol and Georgia Streets this morning.
Jeremy Brilliant of WTHR reports that the church was filled with smoke when an Eyewitness News crew arrived shortly after 4:30 a.m.
Metro arson investigators have been called. Police at the scene indicate the fire is suspicious.
The fire appeared to involve hymnals inside the narthex, or church lobby, but there is no damage report involving the 175-year-old building.
Police have not found an obvious sign of forced entry.
