(NEW CASTLE) - Police in New Castle are investigating following the death of an inmate at the New Castle Correctional Facility Thursday night.
Pendleton District Investigators were called to the facility after the inmate was found unconscious at the bottom of a prison stairwell.
The inmate, who has been identified as 37-year-old Jeremiah K. Taylor was taken to Henry County Hospital. He was then flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital where he died.
Investigators believe Taylor was battered shortly before he was found in the stairwell.
The incident is still under investigation.
Taylor was serving eight years for a conviction of child molestation out of Noble County, according to a release.
