(INDIANAPOLIS) - Police pledged to step up patrols in an east Indianapolis neighborhood after two separate attempts to lure a 16-year-old girl into a man’s car at her school bus stop.
Stephen Dean of TheIndyChannel.com reports that police were called Tuesday morning to the area near the Brookside Community Center, near East 10th and North Rural, after a girl reported that a man had twice tried to lure her into his car.
Her bus stop is located at the community center in the 3500 block of Brookside Parkway South Drive.
She told police that the man, who appeared to be around 40 years old, approached her as she was arriving at the bus stop in the morning, and again as she arrived home after school to head home from the bus stop.
Each time, she said, the man was waiting nearby in a car, and then he followed beside her in that car as she tried to walk away from him.
Police are on the lookout for the car, described as a light colored 1990s model Lincoln Town Car.
The victim told police she tried to ignore the man as he offered her a ride. Other times, he would ask her if she wanted to get a bite to eat with him.
As she tried to ignore him and walk away, she said he drove beside her in his car before finally driving away.
The girl's mother called police Tuesday morning, saying her daughter had just informed her that the man approached her in the morning and again after school on Monday.
Her school was notified and police wrote in their report that they planned to add extra patrols in the area.
The girl's mother said they had some knowledge of who the suspect is, but no arrests were made and the police report indicated his name was not firmly established.
Officers were given a license tag number from his vehicle, which is being used as the police investigation gets under way.
The mother told police she was trying to work with her daughter's school to have her bus stop moved closer to the family's home.
