(TERRE HAUTE) - Kalynn Douglas, 18, faces a charge of neglect of a dependent and another charge for battery in connection to injuries sustained by her 7-week-old child.
According to the probable cause affidavit, police were called to a local hospital when a child was brought in with severe scratches. The report says police counted "hundreds or possibly thousands" of scratches on the child's extremities.
The stories from the suspect and others who were in the house at the time of the incident don't seem to match based on the information in the probable cause.
The suspect said the scratches were caused by a cat that comes in and out of the apartment where Douglas and the child were living. A veterinarian was questioned by police in the case, and the doctor revealed he did not believe the scratches were consistent with cat scratches he's seen.
Douglas is expected back in court March 25 at 9 a.m. She is being held on $35,000 bond, no ten percent allowed.
