(RICHMOND) - The murder trial of an eastern Indiana couple charged in their infant son’s starvation death is set to begin next week.
Wayne County Prosecutor Michael Shipman said in a Thursday statement that Amy Hockett and Joseph Pierson's trial will begin Monday and should last about a week. The trial will be held in Wayne Superior Court.
Hockett and Pierson pleaded not guilty to murder and neglect in the February 2012 death of their 3-month-old son, Khaiden Hockett.
A pathologist ruled the infant died of dehydration due to starvation. His birth weight was 8 pounds 7 ounces, but he weighed 6 pounds 2 ounces at the autopsy.
Authorities say the couple's Richmond home was filthy and covered in feces and urine when investigators searched it on the night Khaiden died.
