Last updated on Friday, February 8, 2013

(PETERSBURG) - An Indiana State Police master trooper is resigning from the force to become the mayor of Petersburg.

A state police news release Thursday said 27-year-veteran Frank Coleman is retiring to take the reins of the city about 40 miles northeast of Evansville.

Former Mayor Jon Craig resigned last month to become deputy director of community and rural affairs under Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann.

A Republican caucus Feb. 2 elected Coleman over five other candidates. He will be sworn in Feb. 22.
