(GREENWOOD) - Detectives in Greenwood have arrested a 46-year-old man following an online investigation into child pornography.
WISH TV8 reports, Greenwood Police Detectives have arrested Robert Todd McCarthy for one count of child exploitation, a Class C felony, possession of child pornography, a Class D felony, and reckless possession of paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor.
Cyber Detectives with the Greenwood Police Department were conducting an investigation into online child porn on Jan. 28 where they downloaded a file from the Internet that was determined to be child pornography, according to a release.
Detectives determined on March 13 that the origin of that uploaded child porn was from a computer in Greenwood.
A warrant was issued on the home of Robert Todd McCarthy.
McCarthy admitted to being interested in child porn and said he downloaded it from the Internet. He said he knew what he was doing was wrong. McCarthy told detectives he had been downloading the content since 2003.
McCarthy's computer and digital media were confiscated for forensic examination.
Detectives learned Thursday that McCarthy had planned to flee the state to avoid arrest and prosecution in the case.
McCarthy was arrested and additional charges are anticipated.
