(COLUMBUS) - The boy who was hit by a truck Monday while walking to school is in good condition, according to a hospital spokesperson.
Jalen Smith, 13, underwent surgery Tuesday morning for a broken thigh bone at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis, according to updates from the family provided to Central Principal Randy Gratz.
Smith, was crossing Marr Road at Hollowell Drive just after 7 a.m. on his way to Columbus East High School to catch a bus to Central Middle School. Officials said he walked in front of a vehicle that was northbound on Marr Road at the time. The driver wasn't able to avoid hitting Smith.
Smith's condition on Monday evening was critical but in stable condition.
