(STATEHOUSE) - Protestors gathered at the statehouse Wednesday to support gay rights.
The rally came on the heels of the second of two cases being taken up at the U.S. Supreme Court regarding gay marriage.
One protester, who attended the rally on behalf of her gay son, said, "I don't like people thinking my son is a second-class citizen. He's the love of my life and I don't believe that he deserves to be discriminated against." She said all married couples deserve the same rights and protections, regardless of sexual preference, a belief shared among all of the protesters at the statehouse.
This week, the high court heard oral arguments on California's Proposition 8, which bans same-sex marriage as well as the Defense of Marriage Act, which denies benefits to legally married same-sex couples.
