(TERRE HAUTE) - A Terre Haute man who pleaded guilty to child molestation heard his fate Wednesday.
WTHI reports that Timothy Sanders admitted to molesting a then 12-year-old girl last year.
"I'm not a monster." Those were the words Timothy Sanders, who was 24 years old at the time of the incident used in court.
He was trying to convince the judge not to give him the maximum sentence of 30 years in prison for his crime.
Sanders and another man, Brandon Bennett were accused of molesting a 12-year-old girl.
Police found her at Bennett and Sanders home. Wednesday in court the girl's family was there.
The grandfather read a statement in the courtroom on behalf of the family. To paraphrase, that statement said there's no place or purpose in society for people like Sanders.
After hearing from the family and Sanders, the judge did sentence him to the maximum, 30 years in prison.
He'll also have to register as sex offender for the rest of his life.
Brandon Bennett is still awaiting trial. He's scheduled to be in court in April.
