(KOKOMO) - The mother of twin 2-year-olds who were hospitalized for alcohol poisoning is under investigation for allegedly giving her children the alcohol.
The Kokomo Tribune reports both the mother of the children, Loren Breedlove, and her boyfriend, Joel O'Bannon, told police Thursday that they had no idea how the twins might have ingested alcohol, according to police affidavits filed in O'Bannon's criminal case Monday.
The newspaper says Breedlove told police she was in and out of the house all day.
Police have already arrested O'Bannon, 21, who has been charged with two counts of child neglect, a Class B felony.
O'Bannon's car was pulled over for speeding, and an officer noticed one of the children in the back seat unconscious.
Police then returned to the home and found the other 2-year-old and a 3-year old, who police say were both drunk.
"It's still under investigation but it was highly unlikely the children could have gotten the alcohol by themselves because of where it was located in the house," said Major Brian Seldon with the Kokomo Police Department.
Both 2-year-olds were life-flighted for alcohol poisoning. The 3-year-old was taken to a local hospital for observation.
Police say all three children are doing OK and are in the care of child protective services.
