(CLINTON) - Authorities have arrested and charged an 18-year-old Riverton Parke High School senior in a suspected case of video voyeurism inside a popular tanning salon.
Brent Frazier, of WTHI reports,Vermillion County sheriff's deputies took Matthew Haltom into custody Tuesday, and charged him with one count of voyeurism with a camera, a class-D felony.
According to Mike Pick, owner of all six Sun Factory Tanning locations in the Wabash Valley, Haltom tanned at his Clinton store around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. Pick said Haltom had wrapped up his tanning session, when he allegedly scaled the 8-foot, 7-inch wall that separated him from the female tanning in the next room, and recorded her with his hand-held cell phone.
Sheriff's investigators confiscated the teenager's cell phone and are trying to figure out whether Haltom forwarded the file, or shared it in any way. That could result in more serious charges.
Pick told News 10, and sheriff's investigators verified, Matt Haltom, once confronted, said there was no such video on his device. Then, the teen reportedly admitted to having video taped something in the room next to his, but insisted he'd deleted such a file.
Mike Pick and his wife, Phyllis, have permanently banned Matt Haltom from all six of their tanning salons.
While Haltom's criminal case plays out in the courts, the Picks are reassuring their largely-female client base that they have a zero tolerance policy for such perversion, and that the Picks have taken precautions to insure that such an incident never happens again.
