(WHITLEY COUNTY) - The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a snowmobile accident northwest of Columbia City.
Rod Hissong of WANE TV reports that just after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, emergency personnel were called to the 2500 block of West 200 North for an injury accident involving a 21-year-old Columbia City man and a snowmobile.
Whitley County Sheriff's deputies said two men were riding snowmobiles west along the county road when one of the riders went into the field and through a fence. The rope-like fence struck the victim in the neck.
Whitley County Coroner Randy Dellinger pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Dellinger said he believes his findings will show the victim died as a result of blunt force trauma to the neck.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
The accident remains under investigation.
