(WAUKEGAN, Ill.) - A Mundelein woman sentenced to prison for allegations that she tried to beat her ex-husband and his new wife to death with a sledgehammer says she’s innocent.
Sandra Rogers tells the (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald (http://bit.ly/11z7MQX ) in a jail interview that she "absolutely did not do it." She is in custody at Lake County Jail.
The 56-year-old woman was sentenced to 61 years in prison earlier this month. A jury convicted her last month after only three hours of deliberations for the 2003 attack in the Chicago suburb of Lincolnshire. The judge said it is "unbelievable and miraculous" that the victims survived.
Rick Rogers, his wife and their daughter were at the sentencing. They said that they were thankful that justice was served.
