(LIBERTY) - Police have arrested a Liberty man for burglaries he committed in a 2008 crime spree in Union and Fayette counties.
Investigators say DNA evidence collected from the crime scenes more than four years ago is credited for the arrest.
Virgus Colt Browning III was arrested Wednesday and preliminarily charged with three counts of burglary, a Class C felony, and one count of theft, a Class D felony.
Browning committed a number of crimes one night in August 2008. Police who responded to a garage burglary in Union County soon learned of a bike theft a few doors down. The bike was found in a Fayette County ditch but police then learned a car had been stolen nearby.
After police located the car they then responded to the report of a stolen pickup truck down the road, according to a release. The truck was found crashed later that evening.
Blood samples collected from those scenes were submitted to the Indiana State Police Lab. Investigators made a DNA match in January of this year.
Browning was already serving a short sentence at the Indiana Department of Corrections for a charge last year
