(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department worked a standoff and hostage situation on the city’s southwest side early Sunday morning.
Officers were called to the 7100 block of Cordova Drive and found several spent shell casings in the driveway. Police say shortly after arriving, a woman, who was reportedly the suspect's mother, came outside from the home and said everything was alright.
Officers then determined a man, woman, and 7-year-old child were inside the residence and that the suspect was in a custody battle with his ex-wife.
Police believed the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Daniel Gourley, had been drinking. Officers also learned there were two guns inside the home.
After several attempts, police were unable to get the suspect, woman, and child out of the home. SWAT and Crisis Negotiations were called to the scene, as officers feared the woman and child were being held hostage.
After negotiations went on for several minutes, the child walked out the back door, uninjured. Gourley and his girlfriend, 32-year-old Catrina Simpson, followed.
Two firearms were found inside the home. Gourley was arrested for criminal recklessness for shooting the weapon. No other arrests were made.
Police say no injuries were reported in the incident.
