(WHITLEY COUNTY) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the death of a woman in Whitley County.
Around 10:50 a.m. Sunday, Whitley County Sheriff's Department dispatchers got a call that someone had been found in a pond at the residence in the 7500 block of W. 500 S. in South Whitley.
Investigators said family members of Bonnie Knetter, 74, were the ones who made that call. Knetter had Alzheimer's and family members came to her apartment to check on her Sunday morning.
She was not inside her apartment, so the family members started to search the surrounding area. That's when a family member found her in the pond a few hundred feet from her residence.
Knetter was unresponsive when she was pulled out of the water. EMS pronounced her dead at the scene a short time later. An autopsy Monday will determine her cause of death.
South Whitley Police Department, Whitley Co Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police, and Whitley Co EMS all assisted at the scene.
