(INDIANAPOLIS) - While investigators begin the long process of piecing together exactly what happened at the Boston Marathon, questions of who did this and why remain.
Jessica Hayes of WISH TV8 reports that local terrorism expert Peter Beering with the Indianapolis Terrorism Response Group said these answers will likely come after a long and tedious investigation.
So far, no individual or group has claimed responsibility.
Beering said it's still too early for speculation as to who or why. An attack by a lone person, he said, is as possible right now as an attack by an international group.
"We know at the end of the day that people who carry out these kinds of attacks are looking for attention, and, unfortunately, this afternoon whoever is responsible for this got that attention," Beering said. "We also know, happily, that these kinds of attacks never work in terms of furthering an ideology."
Beering said it's certain that whoever is responsible knew the media would be there, and the number of runners and spectators made the Boston Marathon a good target.
