(INDIANAPOLIS) - A Scoutmaster fired for being openly gay demonstrated against the United Way at their national meeting in downtown Indianapolis Wednesday.
John LaBerge of WISH TV8 reports that Greg Bourke of Kentucky, a former scoutmaster and father of a Boy Scout, wants the United Way to denounce the Boy Scouts of America's national policy banning gay youth and parents.
Bourke delivered 64,000 signatures to United Way leadership demanding that they stop financial support for the Scouts until openly gay parents of Scouts can serve.
"At this point, for me to be told I can no longer carry on not only with my son but with all the other dozens of boys that I have lead and mentored over the last seven years -- it's just very painful for me," Bourke said.
The Scouts are expected to vote in May on whether or not to drop their national ban on allowing openly gay scoutmasters.
