Firefighters Battle Brush/Woods Fire For Six Hours

Last updated on Monday, April 15, 2013

(PIKE COUNTY) - Dispatchers in Pike County say fire crews were busy Sunday afternoon battling a brush and woods fire that lasted for six hours.

The fire started shortly after 3 p.m. on old mining grounds in the corner of Pike and Gibson counties.

Three fire departments were called to assist. The brush and woods fire took six hours to get under control. A nearby railroad track needed to be shut down while crews fought the blaze.

No injuries were reported.

It is unclear what caused the fire but authorities say a windy day kept the fire spreading.
