(SOUTH BEND) - Jurors have convicted a former northern Indiana Democratic county chairman and a party member accused of forging signatures on petitions used to place Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on the 2008 state presidential primary ballot.
WSBT-TV reports that the St. Joseph County jury reached verdicts Thursday night against former County Chairman Butch Morgan and party member Dan Blythe.
Morgan was found guilty of conspiracy to commit petition fraud and conspiracy to commit forgery. Blythe was convicted of forgery and petition fraud. Sentencing is scheduled for June 17.
Morgan had testified earlier Thursday that he didn't ask anyone to do anything illegal. Blythe didn't testify.
Two others have pleaded guilty in the case. They testified that Morgan asked them to copy signatures from one petition to blank petitions.
