(WARSAW) - Authorities were contacted by emergency personnel at Kosciusko Community Hospital on Thursday after a 2-year-old boy had been brought into the emergency room suffering from multiple bruises, injuries to his groin area and a cracked skull.
Detectives with the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department spoke with the mother of the child who gave them information that led them to question Bradley V. Waikel, 24, of Warsaw. Waikel has been dating the boy's mom and had been living at her home with the child.
Deputies took Waikel to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department where he was interviewed and later charged with felony neglect of a dependent resulting or causing serious bodily injury and felony battery of a child under the age of 14.
The boy has been transferred to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.There's no word on his condition.
Waikel was being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $100,000 bond.The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and Indiana Department of Child Services were also assisted in the investigation by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office
