(INDIANAPOLIS) - A motorcyclist was killed after a high-speed chase involving Indianapolis police early Saturday morning.
The chase began about 5 a.m. after an officer tried to pull over a motorcyclist the officer said was speeding and driving erratically in the 2100 block of Arlington Avenue.
Police said the driver, whose name wasn't immediately released, refused to stop and began speeding away.
"The motorcyclist disregarded a number of traffic control signals and eventually collided with a silver Kia vehicle in the 3800 block of Boulevard Place," said Kendale Adams, Indianapolis police public information officer, in a news release.
The driver was thrown from the motorcycle and was taken to Methodist Hospital in critical condition. The driver later died there.
The driver of the Kia was not injured, police said.
Adams said the chase lasted about 15 minutes at speeds of more than 80 mph at times.
Police said they don't know if alcohol or drugs were involved. No one else was injured.
