(KNOX COUNTY) - Police and Sheriff deputies shot and killed a man after they said he pointed a gun at officers.
According to a news release from the Indiana State Police, a Knox County Deputy was driving down Wilbur Street in Vincennes around 10 p.m. Monday when he was flagged down.
Friends of Ross A. Darkis, 42 of Vincennes, Ind., told the deputy Darkis was upset, intoxicated and had a gun following an argument with his girlfriend earlier in the evening.
Additional officers from the Knox County Sheriff's Office and Vincennes City Police arrived at the home in the 200 block of Wilbur Street.
Officers attempted to have Darkis surrender his weapon, but he refused. Officers then used a Taser and a weapon that shoots a small bean bag to subdue the Darkis. Those attempts were also unsuccessful.
Around 10:25 p.m. police said Darkis raised his gun toward officers. That's when officers from Knox County and Vincennes fired their weapons, striking Darkis multiple times.
Medics transported Darkis to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes where he was pronounced deceased several minutes later.
