(PUTNAM COUNTY) - Indiana State Police troopers from the Putnamville Post responded to a serious crash in Putnam County Thursday night.
Police say the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the 36 mile marker. The accident involved a wrong-way driver in a passenger car and a tractor-trailer.
WISH TV8 reports that the wrong-way driver was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes and struck the tractor-trailer head on. The female driver of the car was extricated and transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital.
Police say she suffered moderate to severe internal, head and leg injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
Five other cars went off the roadway to avoid collision. No injuries or damages were reported.
The investigation is ongoing and toxicology tests for the female wrong-way driver are pending.
Eastbound lanes reopened shortly after 10:30 p.m.
