(FRANKFORT) - A 26-year-old man dying of cancer was able to fulfill his dream of skydiving in the final months of his life Sunday afternoon.
RTV6 reports that when doctors told Nathan Eakle, of Martinsville, that his cancer had spread and he had only a few months to live, he decided to live those months to the fullest.
The first item on his list was a tandem skydive from 13,000 feet with his best friend since 2nd grade, Kyle Fredericks.
Fredericks said when Eakle suggested the jump, he was ready to do it.
"So here we are. I think it's amazing that he is doing this," Fredericks said.
The skydive went off without a hitch and 20 friends and family members were waiting for Eakle on the ground to celebrate his skydiving experience and inspirational approach to life.
Eakle's father died of stomach cancer last summer and his mother, Darlene, is understandably protective of her youngest son, but is proud of his spirit.
"I think at first I was reluctant because he's had two brain surgeries. But he wants to do this, and I'm happy he's doing what he wants while he's still here," she said.
The owner of Skydive Indianapolis said everyone was honored and proud to be a part of Eakle's thrilling experience.
Now that Eakle can cross skydiving off his list, he is ready for the next extreme event.
