(INDIANAPOLIS) - Two Wagoner Medical Center doctors have reached agreements with the state after the Indiana Attorney General’s office filed a petition to suspend four Wagoner Clinic physicians’ licenses.
WISH TV8 reports that they were accused of over-prescribing pain medicine to patients and were linked to 27 patient deaths.
The agreement reached Thursday restricts the doctors' ability to prescribe controlled substances, according to a release.
In March, the Medical Licensing Board filed petitions with the Attorney General's office, asking to temporarily suspend the licenses of Dr. Robert Brewer and Dr. William Terpstra - those petitions were dismissed Thursday.
Brewer resigned from the Wagoner Medical Center in February and is not currently practicing medicine. The agreement states, if he resume practicing medicine, he must refer patients with chronic pain to a specialist. This will remain in effect until Oct. 25 when the licensing complaint is considered by the board.
The same agreement was entered with Terpstra, although he had surrendered his ability to prescribe controlled substances. He must notify the Attorney General's office and the board if he seeks to obtain his former DEA registration.
His agreement will remain in effect until July 25 when the complaint is considered by the board.
