(JENNINGS COUNTY) - A Jennings County meth lab fire has left one person dead and another was charged with murder.
Officers from the Jennings County Sheriff's Office responded to a home in the 1400 block of North CR 275 East around 4:45 a.m.
When they arrived, officers found the body of a 39-year-old man in a vehicle in the driveway. After investigating, officers learned he and 28-year-old Lacey D. Smith were operating a methamphetamine lab at a residence when ingredients in the cook exploded, causing a fire in the kitchen, according to a release.
Smith then put the man in the vehicle and drove him to a relative's home where 911 was called.
Smith was taken into custody and has been preliminarily charged with murder and production of methamphetamine.
Other charges are pending as the investigation is ongoing.
