(FORT WAYNE) - A Word War II veteran in Fort Wayne will get a high school diploma next month, 69 years after he dropped out of high school.
85-year-old Ed Cunningham was a junior in high school in 1944 when he changed the date on his birth certificate to join the Navy.
The "Journal Gazette" reports Cunningham's niece discovered a Pennsylvania high school that grants high school diplomas to WWII vets because the practice of dropping out to join the war effort was common at that time.
Cunningham will receive his diploma from Bradley Area High School June 6th.
