(MARION) - Prosecutors say the former fire chief of Marion faces 14 felony counts for trading vacation and sick time for cash, taking bonuses he wasn’t entitled to, and taking items for personal use.
The Grant County Prosecutor's Office says Stephen Gorrell was involved in a "pattern of racketeering" from 2006 to 2011, the year he retired. It charged him Thursday with theft, official misconduct, forgery and corrupt business influence.
A complaint says Gorrell sold vacation and sick time back to the fire department to get more than $2,200 in cash in 2010 and 2011.
Gorrell was released on bond from the Grant County Jail in the city about 60 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
Gorrell doesn't have a published home telephone number and he could not be reached for comment.
