Illegally-Armed Felon Gets 15 Years

Last updated on Sunday, May 5, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison on Friday after entering a guilty plea that he illegally possessed a handgun as a previous convicted felon.

U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Hogsett announced that 58-year-old George Burdine had an extensive criminal history, involving more than 30 arrests.

Burdine was stopped by an officer on Sept. 2011. According to a release, when he stepped out the vehicle, the officer noticed a knife sticking out of his pocket.

Burdine later admitted he had a gun in the vehicle as well.

Authorities say he has a 40-year criminal history - with 32 prior arrests and ten felony convictions.

Burdine's 15 federal sentence also carries a five-year supervised release after he is released from prison.
