(TERRE HAUTE) - A Vigo County man accused of firing a gun at his son during a Friday evening confrontation was formally charged during a hearing Tuesday morning.
Jaclyn Bevis, of WTHI reports, police arrested Brian O'Neal Friday after they said he fired the gun and threatened to harm himself.
During a court appearing Monday, O'Neal told a judge he had fired two shots at the ground, not his son. He also told the judge that he had not wanted to hurt his son and was only defending himself during a confrontation about the son's treatment of O'Neal's fiancé.
On Tuesday, O'Neal was formally charged with Criminal Recklessness and Pointing a Firearm. A judge ordered O'Neal released on his own recognizance. He also ordered O'Neal to seek mental health treatment through Hamilton Center.
O'Neal was also ordered not to have any guns or ammunition.
