Last updated on Saturday, May 4, 2013

(GOSHEN) - A teenager has pleaded guilty to fatally beating a 76-year-old woman with a metal fence post after breaking into her northern Indiana home.

Eighteen-year-old Luis Bailey of Goshen entered a plea bargain during a court hearing Thursday that calls for him to face a 65-year prison sentence.

The Elkhart Truth reports ( http://bit.ly/18vvKhT ) Bailey testified during the hearing that he broke into Norma Hopper's Elkhart home early Dec. 21 looking for items to steal in order to buy marijuana. Bailey said he attacked Hopper after she got out of bed and then took her car that was later found abandoned in Michigan.

Bailey was 17 at the time and was arrested two days after the attack.

The Elkhart County judge scheduled Bailey's sentencing hearing for May 30.
